Carmen Wimberley Cauthen

Board Member

Carmen Wimberley Cauthen is an author, historian, and researcher who is passionate about sharing the stories of African American communities-particularly those rooted in Raleigh. Before retiring, she served for more than 22 years as the Journal Clerk for the North Carolina House of Representatives, following her graduation from North Carolina State University with a degree in Political Science.


As a board member of Partners for Environmental Justice, Carmen serves as Chair of the Governance Committee. Her long-standing involvement with PEJ includes advocacy during the 2020 Downtown South zoning process and helping organize the 2023 celebration marking Walnut Creek's inclusion in the federal Urban Waters program.
